Just after Christmas

Image
Christmas was merry, quiet but merry.  Holly's favorite part was the opening of gifts.  Pete's favorite part of Christmas was eating.  It was not a white Christmas but a muddy one.  We thought for sure we would have lots of snow.  The locals said it was VERY unusual not to have any snow.  However, yesterday it has started snowing and it is nice and white out now.   Hmm what else is going on?..... Writer's block.....Can't even think of a fake story. I had better post some pictures; they are worth a thousand words. Tess wanted to be on the blog, so here is a picture of her. Today we were slightly productive. We decided to hang pictures. It was time to commit. We decided to dedicate one wall to all our photos. It is organized chaos, an eclectic style of decor..... I always try to be elegant or sophisticated in my style, but usually end up with crazy lady.... Ahh well, at least we are one step closer to making the house a home. I have finally d...

A Trip to Florida

Image
We traveled to Florida to visit with Pete's Dad and Sigrid. They were very excellent host and showed us around to the local sites. Sigrid prepared us a very special Peking Duck dinner to celebrate Thanksgiving with her daughter and family. Below are some of the sites we saw. Of course we saw alligators, not any real ones however. Turns out even batman has retired to Florida. Even though it wasn't the 80 degrees we were hoping for, we were still able to visit the beach a few times. One day Richard and Sigrid took us took St. Augustine where there is an old fort built by the Spanish to protect St. Augustine from invading pirates and many other invading countries over the years. Pete and his Dad Lucky for us Pete knows how to fire canon balls. Pirates didn't stand a chance. We also visited Amelia Island and went Kayaking.  After battling an 17 mile east wind we turned in our kayaks for something a little bigger... with an engine. A good time was had by all, a...

A Quiet month

Image
November has been pretty quiet. We have been working pretty steadily with out much time to run a muck and get into situations that make for good blogging. Maybe next week. We did attend our first hockey game several weeks ago. Canadians are truly in love with hockey. A fist-a-cuffs broke out between two players, and they pounded on each other's faces for a good long time as we and the refs, sat back and watched. One player ended up breaking his hand. I don't think I would be too thrilled about having a son play professional hockey as there is a lot of cheap shots to players when they are not looking, and a lot of revenge tripping and hitting going on. A good hockey game is still a fun outing. Ahh the finer things in life. Holly's latest project. Pete's dog, Tess, continues to bring us surprises. Not what we were planning to have for dinner but.......

FALL FOLAGE AND MY NEW CAMERA

Image
This is the restaurant that Pete took me to for my Birthday. And now the camera wars are on to see who takes the best photo. The days have been very sunny and warm.  We are finally seeing the end of our busy season at the conference center and are looking forward to normal hours.  We have taken a couple of hikes to enjoy all the beautiful fall days.  It is Birthday month and Friday we are going to a hockey game to celebrate some more birthday.  It will be our first hockey game, so we will take Holly's new camera and have some blog pictures for your entertainment.

A FAIR DAY

Image
A Couple of Saturdays ago, we joined the little piggies on a day trip to the St Jacob's farmers market. We enjoyed it quite a bit as they had LOTS of very tasty food. We purchased a few things just to get orientated to all the dining delights and future fantastic feeding. One of our favorites was a fresh acorn squash that we cooked with maple syrup, which we also purchased there. It was delicious. Next time we plan to purchase some 10 year old aged cheddar with some smoked sausaged. MMMM Pete is in this picture, can you find Petealdo? Carrots Bugs Bunny would envy. The amish come to market to sell many things from baked goods to fine horses, meat, cheese, honey and maple syrup. Things that follow people, puppies and potatoes. We will continue to check out things to see and do so that when you come to visit you will not be stuck in the house "helping" repaint the walls or unpacking boxes. Yes we are still working on that. If you come in the wint...

Our First Few Days Oat and Aboat

Image
We are settling into our new home. Things are beginning to feel very homey. The last couple of weeks we have been working pretty long hours, and that is our excuse for neglecting the blog. Poor little neglected blog. This is the river that runs through Guelph. We don't know the name of it yet, but maybe you can be the one to name it. One of the first community activities we participated in was...... a ribfest! Of Course. The ribs were quite delicious. This lady got in an argument with one of the pigs at the ribfest over the quality of her dinner. The pig refused to be baited into a debate. This car was on display at the ribfest. It is just like the chick magnet Pete drove in highschool. Pete, the hunter, has camouflaged himself has a pole in order to sneak up on these wiley birds, the one species of bird he has yet to bag; he is so close. A rose from our back yard, and our backyard on a fall day. The trees are starting to turn to bright colors, and I am sure t...
